Betty White may be 88 but she is about to prove she really IS still a wild thing!

The actress is capping off the day in which she received a much deserved Emmy nomination for her appearance as the oldest -- and might we say funniest -- "Saturday Night Live" host in history by announcing her next role: Calendar pinup girl!

The last surviving "Golden Girl" tells the BBC she's created a 2011 calendar to benefit the Morris Animal Foundation, which supports research on animal health and welfare.

The charity pictorial includes photos of the longtime animal activist posing with beloved creatures from the critter and human kingdom in a manner that will permanently seal her cougar reputation.

One shot features White reclining in a poolside chaise and being served by three shirtless, greased-up hunks dressed only in their Skivvies. Some of her favorite pets, maybe?

White says all proceeds from the $12.99 calendar -- due in September -- will benefit the foundation.

Diane Von Furstenberg (DVF), Calvin Klein and Kenneth Cole have joined forces with MINI to create three new designs for charity. The car brand provided each designer with their favourite model and challenged them to add their own creative stamp.

DVF's creation is covered with colourful lips and the bonnet is adorned with the designer's initials.

"Life is love, love is life! I wanted to create something that celebrates life and reminds us of the importance of health," said von Furstenberg. "The red colour of the MINI expresses the awareness of HIV/AIDS, the lips represent Diane von Furstenberg. This car is bursting with life and love."

Soles4Souls is a Nashville-based charity that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. The charity distributes these shoes free of charge to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away over 10 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes (currently donating one pair every 9 seconds.) The shoes have been distributed to people in over 125 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States. Soles4Souls has been featured in Runner's World, Ladies’ Home Journal, National Geographic’s Green Guide, and The New York Times. It has appeared on CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, BBC, CNN and thousands of other news outlets. Anyone can join their cause, and they need your help.

Soles4Souls facilitates the donations of shoes, which are used to aid the hurting worldwide. Shoe companies, retailers, and individuals can donate footwear (both new and used).

The idea behind gifts of shoes is nothing new to the Soles4Souls team, as they coordinated relief efforts for the Asian Tsunami and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, netting over 1 million pairs donated for these disasters. The team originally operated as www.katrinashoes.org with several churches partnering in the collection and distribution of footwear.

Soles4Souls Is Green!
How is Soles4Souls green? They offer a simple way to help reduce the strain on our environment: donate your "gently worn" footwear to people in need instead of throwing them away. Last year alone, Americans discarded more than 300 million pairs of shoes. When these shoes break down in our landfills, the toxic glue that holds the shoes together can leak into our water supply and atmosphere.

Soles4Souls can save your shoes from early death by cleaning them and shipping them to needy people around the world, who will treasure the gift for years to come. Since its inception following the Asian tsunami, Soles4Souls has distributed over 10 million pairs to people in 125 countries, and our efforts have been publicized in thousands of articles, including the Green Guide by National Geographic and Runner's World.

Most of our closets are filled with shoes we rarely wear. Instead of dropping the unwanted pairs in the trash, consider donating your unwanted pair to Soles4Souls. If you are a retailer or an individual outside the U.S. and you would like to donate, please read the attachment below, or visit their website:

Dutch bedding company "Snurk" has designed some fun bedding that will make you do a double take. Their newest line is called the "White Laundry Series," and it creates the illusion of white laundry pieces (bra, thong, sock, shirt) being left on your bed. I'm sure this series will make any neat freak go crazy!

Other cool "Snurk" collections include "Le Clochard" which creates the illusion of being covered with cardboard boxes, and "Le Trottoir" which creates the illusion of sleeping on pavement. A large portion of the proceeds from these two collections go to SZN (a foundation for homeless youngsters in the Netherlands).

A while back we wrote a post on how your hair can help clean up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  About two weeks ago, BP informed Matter of Trust that its oil-soaking needs are being met with synthetic booms (which are likely made with petroleum-derived products *sigh*). The problem with synthetic booms is that they eventually need to be placed in a landfill or burned, causing further pollution. However, natural materials like fur, hair, and feathers can be composted. Plus, the hair boom method worked rather well in the Cosco Busan oil spill in SF back in 2007. So Matter of Trust is still accepting donations, and the group is instead working with Gulf Coast parishes and counties as well as official government hazmat teams. ALL salons, groomers, alpaca and llama fleece farmers, individuals, & pet owners can sign up to donate hair, fur, fleece, feathers, nylons and funding. It's fast & FREE.

Will these hair booms solve the bigger problem? No, but at this point, any bit helps.
